  38. NF1 - NEW FEATURES 
  39.  
  40. * Microsoft Windows XP Support - QuickClean v2.0 will 
  41.   launch with support for the next generation operating 
  42.   system, Windows XP.  Windows XP represents Microsoft's 
  43.   combined platform for the 9.x/ Me and NT/ 2000 
  44.   machines.  All operating systems currently supported
  45.   in QuickClean will continue to be supported. 
  46.  
  47. * New User Interface - QuickClean's new interface 
  48.   is now simpler than ever to use.
  49.  
  50. * Instant Updater
  51.   QuickClean includes a new mechanism used to register 
  52.   and update your McAfee product.  
  53.   
  54. * Improved Internet Cleaning - QuickClean v2.0 
  55.   improves the ability to remove data that is no 
  56.   longer used or needed and items that users want
  57.   to keep completely private. 
  58.  
  59. * Improved Shredding Capabilities - QuickClean 
  60.   allows users to shred data they choose to delete 
  61.   to ensure it remains private.  QuickClean offers 
  62.   the choice of using the shredder embedded within 
  63.   the cleaning feature or using a stand-alone 
  64.   shredder.  This assures that selected data is 
  65.   completely wiped from the system.

  67. * Application Remnant Cleaner - Although some 
  68.   applications have their own uninstall programs, 
  69.   remnants are usually left behind in the system.  
  70.   ARC ensures that all remaining files and folders 
  71.   are removed for a thoroughly clean PC.

  73. * Folder Browser - This QuickClean feature helps users 
  74.   analyze the contents of their hard drive. Use this feature
  75.   to identify folders owned by applications that are 
  76.   candidates for removal or compression. 
  77.  
  78. * Customizable File Cleanup List - Users can create 
  79.   a customizable list of files that they want to clean 
  80.   periodically.  This includes MP3 files that possibly 
  81.   didn't get completely downloaded the first time and 
  82.   other files that are deemed non-critical.

  84. * Improved Configuration Assistant - Users do not 
  85.   need to be experts to customize QuickClean. The 
  86.   Configuration Assistant makes set-up quick and easy.  
  87.   Once installed, the Configuration Assistant walks 
  88.   the user through a succession of easy-to-understand 
  89.   questions and auto-configures itself based user 
  90.   responses.  This ensures only the desired  features 
  91.   are activated.

  95. DC1 - DOCUMENTATION

  97. McAfee Consumer Products Division provides 
  98. each of its products with an extensive set of 
  99. documentation, consisting usually of one or 
  100. more product guides saved in Adobe Acrobat 
  101. Portable Document Format (.PDF), and an online 
  102. help system, whose form can vary, depending on 
  103. the platform on which the product runs.
  104.  
  105. Acrobat .PDF files are flexible online documents
  106. that contain hyperlinks, outlines and other aids
  107. for easy navigation and information retrieval.
  108. You can also install an Acrobat plug-in file
  109. that allows you to read .PDF documents from
  110. within your web browser while online. Copies
  111. of the product documentation come with the
  112. product CD-ROM.

  114. A copy of the free Acrobat Reader also comes
  115. with the product CD-ROM or is available from

  128.  * A printed Getting Started Guide, which
  129.    introduces the product, provides
  130.    installation instructions, outlines product
  131.    features, and provides a brief overview. In
  132.    many cases, an electronic version of this
  133.    guide will also be available on the product
  134.    CD-ROM or from McAfee Consumer Products 
  135.    Division FTP site in Adobe Acrobat .PDF format.

  137.  * A User's Guide saved on the product CD-ROM or
  138.    installed on your hard disk in Adobe Acrobat
  139.    .PDF format.  McAfee Consumer Products Division 
  140.    User's Guides document all product functions 
  141.    extensively, and discuss how best to use your 
  142.    McAfee software product to accomplish your 
  143.    tasks.

  145.  * Specialized guides. These can include
  146.    reference guides, deployment guides,
  147.    configuration guides, vulnerability guides
  148.    for intrusion detection software, and other
  149.    product-specific documentation.
  150.  
  151.  * An online help system. Online help gives you
  152.    quick access to hints and tips about how to
  153.    use your McAfee software. The format of the 
  154.    online help system for the product will vary, 
  155.    depending on which platform or operating 
  156.    system you use to run your McAfee product. 
  157.    In most cases, the software will display a 
  158.    Help menu item or link that you can use to 
  159.    start the system.
  160.    
  161.  * Some products might also include context-
  162.    sensitive online help. Right-click buttons,
  163.    lists or other elements within dialog boxes
  164.    to see brief, descriptive help topics.
  165.  
  166.  * A LICENSE.TXT file. This file outlines the
  167.    terms of your license to use your Networks
  168.    Associates product. Read it carefully. If
  169.    you install a McAfee Consumer Products 
  170.    Division product, you agree to the license 
  171.    terms.

  173.  * This file contains last-minute additions or 
  174.    changes to the documentation, lists any 
  175.    known behavior or other issues with the 
  176.    product release, and often describes new 
  177.    product features incorporated into incremental 
  178.    product updates.

  187. SR1 - SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  188.  
  189. To use McAfee QuickClean you need:
  190.  
  191. * A personal computer with a Pentium 100 MHz 
  192.   or higher processor.
  193.  
  194. * Windows 95B or higher, Windows 98, 
  195.   Windows Me, Windows NT Workstation with 
  196.   Service Pack 4 or later, Windows 2000 
  197.   Professional, Windows XP Home Edition, 
  198.   or Windows XP Professional.
  199.  
  200. * Internet Explorer 4.01, Service Pack 2 or 
  201.   higher required for Windows 95 and Windows NT; 
  202.   IE 5.01 or later recommended. 
  203.  
  204. * 15 megabytes (MB) of free hard disk
  205.   space for a full installation.
  206.  
  207. * 32 MB RAM
  208.  
  209. * To take full advantage of McAfee's 
  210.   Instant Updater feature, you should have an 
  211.   Internet connection, either through your
  212.   local-area network, or via a modem and 
  213.   an Internet service provider.

  216. IN1 - INSTALLATION
  217.  
  218. To install McAfee QuickClean:
  219.  
  220. 1. If your computer runs Windows NT Workstation v4.0, 
  221.    Windows 2000 Professional, or Windows XP, log on to 
  222.    your system as a user with administrative rights. 
  223.    You must have administrative rights to install 
  224.    this software on your system.
  225.  
  226. 2. Insert the McAfee QuickClean CD into your computerÆs 
  227.    CD-ROM drive. If the Autorun installation menu does 
  228.    not automatically display, go to Step 3. 
  229.    Otherwise, skip to Step 4. 
  230.  
  231. 3. Use the following procedure if the Autorun installation 
  232.    menu does not display, or, if you obtained your software 
  233.    via download at a McAfee web site.
  234.  
  235.     a. From the Windows Start menu, select Run.
  236.        The Run dialog box displays
  237.  
  238.     b. Type <X>:\SETUP.EXE in the Run dialog text box, 
  239.        and click OK.
  240.  
  241. Here, <X> represents the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive or 
  242. the path to the folder that contains your extracted QuickClean  
  243. files. To search for the correct files on your hard disk or 
  244. CD-ROM, click Browse.
  245.  
  246. 4. Before proceeding with the installation, Setup first 
  247.    checks to see whether your computer is already running 
  248.    the Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) utility running 
  249.    as part of your system software.
  250.  
  251.     a. If your computer runs Windows XP, Windows Me, or 
  252.        Windows 2000, MSI already exists on your system. If 
  253.        your computer runs an earlier Windows release, you may 
  254.        still have MSI in your computer if you previously 
  255.        installed other software that uses MSI. In either of 
  256.        these cases, Setup will display its first wizard 
  257.        panel immediately. Skip to Step 5 to continue.
  258.        
  259.     b. If Setup does not find MSI or an earlier version 
  260.        of MSI is installed in your computer, it installs 
  261.        files necessary to continue the installation, then 
  262.        prompts you to restart your computer. Click Restart 
  263.        System. When your computer restarts, Setup will 
  264.        continue from where it left off. 
  265.  
  266. 5. Refer to steps displayed on the Installation Wizard 
  267.    to complete your installation.

  270. KN1 - KNOWN ISSUES
  271.  
  272.  * Insufficient Drive Space messages: 
  273.    Free drive space, in addition to the amount described 
  274.    under "System Requirements - MB of hard disk space", 
  275.    must be available to run Setup and install your 
  276.    McAfee product.  The amount of additional space depends 
  277.    upon your computer's Operating System and its configuration.
  278.    If, during setup, you receive an "insufficient drive space" 
  279.    message, exit setup and remove unnecessary files from your 
  280.    computer. Re-start Setup. Perform these steps as necessary 
  281.    until you do not receive an insufficient drive space message." 
  282.  
  283.  * McAfee Shredder, is not able to shred folder entries 
  284.    if your computer's operating system is Windows XP
  285.    Windows 2000, or Windows NT.
